Wisonsin Medicare Supplements
While most of the US states offer the CMS standardized Medigap plans, those offered in Wisconsin are a bit different. Wisconsin has their own standardized Medigap plans that are unique to them. In Wisconsin, you will start with the “base plan” which is the same for everyone. You can then add “riders” or additional features to customize your coverage to fit your needs and wants.
Wisconsin Base
Medicare Supplement Plan
Wisconsin offers a Medigap Basic Plan that includes the following benefits:
- Part A coinsurance, which starts after 60 consecutive days of inpatient services
- Skilled Nursing Facilities
- Hospice
- First 3 pints of blood
- 40 additional home health care visits
- Part B Coinsurance
- Another 175 days of mental health care as an inpatient once the standard Medicare benefit has been exhausted.
- Everything starts with this basic plan; you can add riders to increase coverage.
Riders
Wisconsin Medicare beneficiaries can also add optional riders to the Medigap Basic Plan, for an additional cost, to cover the following:
- Part A deductible (100% coverage) Part A deductible (50% coverage)
- Additional 365 days of home health care
- Part B deductible (If eligible for Medicare before 1/1/2020)
- Part B coinsurance
- Adding the Part B coinsurance rider will add copays of up to $20 for a doctor visit and up to $50 for the emergency room.
- Part B excess charges
- Foreign travel emergency
- Each rider has a cost that will either add or subtract from the base cost of the basic plan.
SeniorCare Rx
State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP) for Wisconsin residents who are 65 years of age or older.
There are different levels that you may qualify for with SeniorCare Rx. Depending on what level you qualify for you may or may not have a deductible. No matter what level someone qualifies for, once the deductible is met (if there is one) then the cost of a generic refill is $5.00 and a name brand refill is $15.00.
Enrollment Requirements Include:
- Must be a Wisconsin resident.
- Must be 65 years of age or older.
- Your application will not be accepted if you apply earlier than the month before your 65th birthday.
- Annual enrollment fee of $30.00 per person.
- Only income is counted. Assets such as bank accounts, retirement accounts and home property are not counted.

Yes that is correct, there are multiple plans that are generally offered in each zip code/county. The Extra Help Agency was set up as a brokerage agency so this means we can help you understand all of the plans available to you in your area. In addition to the volunteer work we do for the local communities, we also help people understand their Medicare options at no cost or obligation.
When we are able to help someone set up their Medicare Supplement Plan, Part D or Medicare Advantage Plan, we become their local agent.
